Shop It To Me.com

For those of you who love fashion, I found a great site!
It’s called Shop It To Me.com
The cool thing about this site is it will send you e-mails when your favorite brands are having online sales.

How it works is you pick form lists of brands the ones you like and then it will constantly be searching the web for you for when there is an online sale for that brand in your size. You pick from every category, shoes, accessories, dresses, etc. so it’s tailored to the specific brand and category of your likeliness.

It always nice to get something you love for less money! My friend uses it all the time and often times will find cool designer stuff for cheap.

I just joined the site, so I am hoping to get some great deals!

Searching for Jobs Online

I will be graduating this June, and I am currently looking for jobs. I am an organizational communications major with a minor in marketing. I am hoping to get a job in marketing either in an educational setting or corporate setting doing something on the creative side.

I know there are some seniors in our class, I was just wondering if anyone is having luck in the job search process? I am becoming extremely discouraged with a lot of the job search engines like, monster, indeed, and career builder.

A lot of times with a marketing key word search I am coming across a lot of companies that I have never heard of before. I know some are legit and others seem to be on the sketchy side. Sometimes I will type the company into Google and the word scam will appear in the search results with the company’s name.

Basically, I don't know where to apply to a lot of the times because I have never heard of most of the companies. It seems like most of the open jobs at the moment are not coming from large corporations or well known companies. Also, a lot of the stuff out there seems to be sales positions, which I do not want to do at all! :(

Does anyone know of a good site to search that they have had luck with?

Marketing and the Internet

In my marketing classes we have recently been talking about how advertisers should be moving from traditional forms of advertising (prints ads, T.V. and radio commercials) to non traditional forms of advertising (e-marketing, guerrilla marketing). This switch is due to the fact that consumers are spending most of their time on the Internet and are not receptive to the traditional advertising of the past. People are watching T.V. shows on the Internet, using Ti Vo to eliminate commercials, and tuning out most of ads that come their way. Therefore, marketers have to be more creative and accountable than ever before.

I was wondering what you guys thought about internet advertising. Do you think e-marketing is a good idea and will prove to be effective?

Do you guys ever click on the ads on the side of your Face book page? Have you ever bought anything from those ads?
Just curious about your thoughts!

Internet Identity

I was thinking about the last discussion the class had on internet identity and how ones identity can vary from site to site that you visit. I have to agree with the assertion that Internet identity is subject to the image you want to portray to the online community or person you are talking too. For example, you wouldn’t talk to your parents on facebook the same way you walk to your friends.

On the subject of having different personas, what do you guys think about sites like Lambdamoo? I had never really tried anything like that before. I can’t say that I am a fan of that sort of online activity, but I know some people find that kind of escape from the real world enjoyable. I can see how various people benefit from going to sites where they can make up there own character. For example, someone who is too shy in real life can have a chance to express them self freely with out the fear of people judging them in real life. However, I do believe that their needs to be a balance of online activity and real world community interaction. The internet may be a start for those who are too shy to step put of their shell, put they need to continue to step out of their shell in the real world as well to achieve that balance.

Hulu Favorites

Here are a few of my favorite functions about HULU:

Free!
High quality-no choppy clips
Wide variety of shows I like
You have fewer advertisements than You Tube
You can pick what type of Ad you would like to view
Easy to view a show that I missed when it premiered

HULU-Future of T.V.

I love Hulu!! While recently on spring break I used Hulu a lot during down time to catch up on my favorite shows. The quality was great and there wasn’t tons of commercials and advertisements distracting from watching my show.

I think Hulu could be the future of T.V. viewing for many people of my generation. With busy lives and free access to a quality T.V. viewing website, how could one not like it?

I recently read an article on Hulu from BussinessWeek.com entitled, NBC and New’s Corp’s Hulu Is Off To a Strong Start. The article tells of how Hulu is starting to steel You Tube’s thunder and how more people are viewing the Hulu site every day.

“In August, according to Nielsen Online, Hulu exceeded 100 million video
streams for the second month in a row. That puts Hulu a distant second to
YouTube, which had 4.7 billion streams in August.”

Hulu is also becoming very appealing to advertisers because the demographic of viewers are aged 18-44. This segment is willing to spend long periods of time on Hulu watching shows. Hulu also states in the article that they will be able to tell advertisers what type of person is watching their shows without compromising the viewers privacy.

“ Hulu users on average spent 256 minutes in August watching videos, up from 169
minutes in July. That was the longest time spent among all Web brands, according
to Nielsen. "Now that's an engaged viewer," says Robert D'Asaro, a digital
advertising strategist at media-buying firm OMD. Not "somebody bouncing from
clip to clip on YouTube.”

Overall I think Hulu is Awesome and the above quote shows how it will continue to grow as the future of T.V. viewing!

Online Literacy A "Lesser" Kind

I found the article by Bauerlin, Online Literacy Is A "Lesser" Kind, to be quite harsh at times. Although, I do agree with him that some more complex literature needs to be focused on without digitalized learning, for the most part I am a firm believer in having smart boards and online references in the classroom.

I am a visual learner and I really appreciate it when there are visual/digital aids in the classroom, it’s another way for me to learn the information better and get a clearer picture of the material. To say that having a digital aid in the classroom is not a good thing and that it should be limited is wrong in my opinion. The world functions on the internet and any career a student will have after college will need to have strong knowledge of the computer. It makes no sense to start taking away computers and digitalized learning aids when the world is going to continue to progress with internet and technology uses in the business world.

Even though some studies are showing that there is no obvious advantage to learning by the digital technology, it’s still important for students to be connected in that digital way because every job that a student will have after college will focus around the internet and digital technology. It makes sense to have as much technology in schools as possible because that’s what students will encounter in the work force. In other words, the exposure to technology is important even if studies show mixed results.

Although there are critics calling our generation dumb, due to our internet use and reliance on technology to do all the work, having information available to us at the click of a button increases knowledge in my opinion and makes us smarter overall. One can do more research in a short period of time by clicking a couple of buttons, as opposed to having to go check out books at the library. This is why I find it hard to believe that my generation is the dumbest generation. In many ways, I believe we will be one of the smartest, due to the fact we grew up with the internet.

Overall, I do not agree with Bauerlin’s idea of limiting the use of technology in the classroom. I feel like that would be like going back in time. In regard to the scanning reading problem with students, I feel like if you’re the type of person to scan the internet you are also the type of person to scan a book. I don’t feel like the blame should be on the internet. If you’re going to scan something your going to scan something, regardless of the medium.

Reaction to Not Martha Website

After reading the interview on Megan Reardon I took some time to browse her website. I loved the photography she posts of her cooking, all the treats always look really yummy! For claiming to not know alot about photography, I think she does a good job. I also enjoyed the "how to make stuff" section! She gives specific details on how to make some cool and easy crafts!

Some of my favorite "how to make stuff"posts:

Really Tiny Cupcakes
This is a great treat if you just want a taste of something sweet!

Adventures in Lip Balm
I've always wanted to try this!

Easter Eggs
Good idea for the upcoming holiday!

Reaction to Megan Reardon Interview

I found the interview with Megan Reardon quite interesting! I enjoyed hearing about how and why she blogs, and learning about her popular blog, Not Martha. I am a person that enjoys doing crafts and projects, so I was happy to find out about a new site to gain tips from. Aside from finding out about a new site I like, I thought Reardon made some truthful observations about people's behavior on blogs. She states,
"people are much kinder and weirder than we allow ourselves to be in public.
It's such a relief."
I agree with Reardon as well that its a relief that people let their guards down a lot more online then they otherwise would in public. Sometimes its just easier to be yourself when someone only knows you by your blog name. Overall, I thought Reardon was an interesting person to read about. For having a popular blog, she seemed to be very humble. She would always refer to the fact that she doesn't pretend to know what shes doing. She gave me encouragement for my future blog writing because like me, she admits she was never the best writer and spelling errors are common to her posts. Despite not being the best writer she still has a popular blog, and I will enjoy reading her posts in the near future to say the least!
