I was thinking about the last discussion the class had on internet identity and how ones identity can vary from site to site that you visit. I have to agree with the assertion that Internet identity is subject to the image you want to portray to the online community or person you are talking too. For example, you wouldn’t talk to your parents on facebook the same way you walk to your friends.
On the subject of having different personas, what do you guys think about sites like Lambdamoo? I had never really tried anything like that before. I can’t say that I am a fan of that sort of online activity, but I know some people find that kind of escape from the real world enjoyable. I can see how various people benefit from going to sites where they can make up there own character. For example, someone who is too shy in real life can have a chance to express them self freely with out the fear of people judging them in real life. However, I do believe that their needs to be a balance of online activity and real world community interaction. The internet may be a start for those who are too shy to step put of their shell, put they need to continue to step out of their shell in the real world as well to achieve that balance.
